Corporate governance indices have provided an important area of research in the comparative corporate governance literature starting with La Porta et al. in the late 1990's . A number of indices have been developed over time, and it has been recognized that it is not appropriate to apply uniform variables in different corporate environment. Indeed,  corporate governance must be understood in the context of the broader institutional environment.

The attached table provides data for certain Nordic countries for the construction of a corporate governance index reflecting factors that are relevant in the context of concentrated ownership.
